One has to admit that they don’t want to look in the mirror and see a shrivelled version of themselves, mainly consisting of nothing but fine lines and creases on their skin. These lines are most apparent on the areas beside the mouth and under or beside the eyes. These are known as wrinkles, which happen to be the number one enemy among people who wish to maintain youthfulness on their faces. No one wants to see themselves looking too tired and withered, but then again, wrinkles are all part of the aging process. There are several causes for these lines to appear, and at often times they are more uncommon than one would think. While people often associate wrinkling with genetics going down the drain, there are other reasons why some people have more evident wrinkles than others. Below are just some of these reasons:
1. The use of anti-depressants, whether people realize it or not, has a huge impact on the development of creases on the skin. These drugs, though helpful in alleviating bouts of depression, can lead to a much older appearance among people that use them. Anti-depressants give a relaxing effect on the facial muscles. Too much relaxation can significantly affect the firmness of the skin. This would lead to sagginess which can result in fine lines appearing on a person’s skin when they get older.
2. Another reason wrinkles would appear is due to dieting. An individual may do all that’s possible to lose a lot of weight. However, a drastic loss in weight can cause sagginess. Apart from that, those who consume foods which are rich in sugar may also experience wrinkling on their skin. This is due to the fact that their components may end up clinging to the collagen produced by the skin to maintain elasticity. The effect is a loss of firmness and moisture, leading the skin to look dry and feel rather stiff.
3. Smoking is something that a lot of people do in order to relieve themselves of stress. However, this is something which can contribute to the growth of wrinkles on the face. Smoking profusely would certainly help someone focus on a certain task, allowing them to concentrate and think a lot better. After all, that’s why most people claim cigarettes to be their “thinking sticks.” Yet, it has a huge impact on a person’s blood supply. This would then contribute to the rapid aging of the skin, most particularly on the face.
4. Constant exposure to the sun is also detrimental to the moisture of the skin. It can lead to skin dehydration, which would then build up over time and cause extreme dryness. It can simply make the skin even more vulnerable to environmental and weather hazards, thus making it more sensitive. The effects aren’t apparent at first, but as soon as a person gets older, it will be more visible. Wrinkles will appear, growing a lot deeper on the skin, making it rather difficult to remedy with ointments and creams.
These are just some causes of wrinkles which not many people might now know of. Since these have been brought up, one can only hope to take note of them and do all that’s possible to avoid wrinkles.
